2024 Total Solar Eclipse

On April 8th, 2024, the second total eclipse I’ve witnessed made its way across the U.S., this time traveling from the southeast to the southwest, crossing the same spot as the 2017 eclipse in souther Illinois near Carbondale. I took my family to camp in southeastern Illinois to Red Hills State Park to witness the event. This one also did not disappoint!

One of the most notable notable things about this eclipse was the presence of a huge solar flare on the bottom of the sun, visible to the naked eye during totality, which measured over three times the width of the earth.
